Building Blocks for a Healthy Future

Power Point Presentation Training Tool

This Building Blocks for a Healthy Future (Building Blocks) PowerPoint presentation is a training tool for parents, educators, school administrators, and/or health educators to showcase Building Blocks as an evidence-based initiative and to promote the value of early childhood prevention.  The Building Blocks presentation topics include:

  • Overview of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration;
  • Building Blocks initiative and materials:
    • Materials and resources for use in the classroom, the home, or other settings; and
    • Materials made up of a six-piece kit, easy readers, and, coming soon, a mobile application; and
  • Topic articles and lesson plans:
    • Regularly developed articles with corresponding lesson plans and a family activity; and
    • Linkage between articles/lesson plans and “protective” steps.

The presentation can be used by various community groups, including Parent Teacher Associations, faith-based organizations, and substance abuse and behavioral health organizations.  The presentation could also be used during teacher in-service meetings, Head Start Policy Council meetings, or school administrator meetings.  In addition, the presentation can be easily adapted to fit the intended audience, location, training style, and purpose.  Each slide in the presentation includes speaker notes for ease of use.

Timeframe:  Approximately 30 minutes
